Statement of Purpose:
Hello my name is Allan Coello and I'm currently a student at California State University Monterey Bay. I am major in Japanese Language and Culture finishing what I hope to be my last year. Later in life I plan on becoming a Translator and Interpreter for the United Nations. I want to work for an organization that helps countries in need.
I first became interested in the Japanese culture when I walked into my living room where my father was watching Akira Kurasawa's, Seven Samurai. I never seen any other movie like this and at this that point I knew had to go out and quench my thirst of Japanese culture. Growing up Cartoon Network had a block programming called, Adult Swim, where they would show dubbed anime such as Dragon Ball Z and Cowboy Bebop. For young adults and children anime is the main gate way into Japanese Culture.
Over the course of studying Japanese and can now say I can speak the language at an Intermediate level. Studying a new language takes time and lots of dedication to master and many say Japanese is one the hardest to. I am up to the challenge and will not let anything stop me. When I first started learning Japanese I learned katakana, which is the writing system used for foreign words, gave me the most the difficulty. Now I can say that I moved from just knowing Katakana to knowing kanji, which is the most advanced writing system.
