MLO 4: Research and Technology
4.1 Students become familiar with appropriate research methodologies and are able to apply such in their studies.
4.2 Students will use appropriate technologies in research and studies relative to Japanese language and culture.
4.3 Students will collect, manage and analyze current and emerging technology-based resources to develop and produce their scholarly work.

4.1
By completing the courses in order to fulfill the MLO I was able to learn how to conduct to a proper survey, collect and analyse the findings. These skills were used primarily when I was preparing for my capstone. I conducted a small survey by the means of Survey Monkey, which limits the user to only ask a certain amount of numbers. During Precapstone I was introduced to Google Forms which allows the user to ask any number of questions for there survey. Another aspect that I learned is that archiving data or work done every step of the way. This makes tracking the status of your current assignment easier to manage.

There are a number of different online Japanse dictionaries and often they will contradict each other. During the year I learned to only use the ACTL dictionary because it gave me the proper meaning and the proper reading of the word. Writing Japanese papers this year was much easier that previous year. Before i would look at 3 different dictionaries and ultimately i was wrong on a number of occasions. In a way I had re-learn how to use Microsoft Office products such as Powerpoint and Excel in order to complete my capstone. Every time the class was assigned to create a Powerpoint we would subsequently present them infront of the class. Having these presentations allowed me to become comfortable in front of an audience or my peers and professors.
