In this course we looked at the different eras that make up Japan's long and rich history. In about 12 weeks I was able to study more than 1400 years of history. Taking an approach like this is interesting because each we are given materials to read and the following week is during a different era. Each week I looked back to the readings to see how much life can change over time. The course itself was not difficult but the homework load was immense. I was doing fine in the beginning but after I missed one or two assignments everything started to crumble. This course helped developed my reading comprehension and presentational skills.
My biggest challenge,as in other classes, is studying kanji. With each chapter of to book I had to practice and memorize a certain amount of Kanji. No matter how many hours I spend at a desk it is almost futile for me to grasp kanji. On average it take me 30 minutes to memorize a kanji that has over 10 strokes. I was only able to pass a certain number of quiz's. Even though I struggled with Kanji in still enjoyed this class. Looking in depth at certain periods of Japanese History is fascinating. It is rich with culture and knowledge the pass the test of time. Traditions that date back to founding of country can still be seen in Japan.
